Thread Sealant VS Thread Locker???

so permatex makes like 4 different ones.. they have red and blue thread locker and they have high temp and high performance thread sealant!

whats the difference! i know the difference between the blue and red thread locker etc but what im wondering is what will seal better? is thread sealant basically just the same as thread locker except that it doesnt lock the threads???

thread sealant will keep water and such from passing through the threads and coming through the bolt hole....it is used on things such as cylinder head bolts that penetrate into a water jacket....if you don't putthe thread sealer in you will loose all coolant and may overheat....thread sealant doesn't lock the bolt but it will hold it tighter...threadlocker doesn't seal...it may slow the leak but it won't seal it all the way it is used in bolts that have a reputation for loosening such as torque converter bolts and rod bolts and main caps etc

Well, it probably would just because you are adding some material to the threads, but sealing is not it's intended function.
