Thread chaser size?

Hey does anybody know who sells thread chasers locally? (sears hardware)?

Also trying to get the right size with right thread pattern for header bolt hole in head.

I am going to tackle this, this weekend as my exhaust tick is gonna give me away upon inspection. Any help would be great.

what do you mean by thread chaser? any auto store should have a Tap and repair kits...whatever you need, pretty sure the headers bolts are 3/8"-16 but take a bolt with you to be sure as always

Do you have a stripped thread or just want to clean them?

Stripped thread, and just bought the 3/8 x 16 tap. (just wanted to double check on the size) I am going to try a thread chaser before tapping, to reduce any unnecessary thread damage.

My # 8 header threads got screwed up right at the entrance, and need a way to fix it. My header got in a bind, and my bolt just turned in place. Luckily it was not too deep in the hole.

Here's a good link to explain the difference between a thread chasing tap and a thread cutting tap: http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/thread_chasing/

Sears sells thread chasers. When I was building my 383 I bought the whole set of internal and external, SAE fine, SAE coarse and Metric for about $50.

Well went to sears, got the chasers 60 bucks for a set (tried to just get one)

The idiot told me they didnt have them, and I made him get it out behind the glass doors.

Anyways it worked, and fixed everything on the exhaust so.....victory is mine!
