Those who have built LT1's, whats a decent thrust gap?
Those who have built LT1's, whats a decent thrust gap?
I assembled my bottom end tonight, and the gap between the thrust bearing and the crank is about .0025, .003 will fit but tight.
The motor spins, and its been a while since I have built a motor so I cant tell you if it spins real tight, but with a wrench on the crank bolt I can spin it with one hands force.
Lemme know!

Well, the heads are off, and that one hand isnt just spinning it around and around, I am just saying that I CAN do it with one hand if I tried. I should have used the torque wrench to see how much torque it took to spin.

well we just had a 383 built for my friend. It took a tq wrench to move it. With out a long wrench like that we would never be able to turn with a hand held wrench.
There is a certain tq rating that the motor is susposed to spin at. Look around the net for it. Hope this helps.

part of that is also the lube. Bearing lube and assembly lube are two different things and the friction or TQ required to turn it will be much higher on the bearing lube than assembly lube or oil.
The crankshaft endplay (or how you measure thrust bearing clearance) is .003-.010
