Those with SLP pressure plate over Mcleod...why?

I know this belongs in the drivetrain but I posted it there first and only got one reply and it didnt answer my question so I'd like to try here.

I see a lot of people running the SLP pressure plate with the Mcleod single disk. Those that are, why did you choose to go with the SLP over the Mcleod PP? Is it because it is lightened?

I would bet a lot of them started out with the SLP PP & disc, then wanted to upgrade just the disc. Thats what I'm looking at now, I'm using SLP's clutch and thinking of going with the Mcleod disc for something stronger, I'm not going to buy a whole new PP since it doesnt have that many miles on it.

All pressure plates are created equal and are made by valeo.. I'm not sure of any other difference's.. My street twin uses the same as a stock replacement one.. i do know that..

That makes sense gregg. Is the SLP lightened PP worth buying or should I just buy all Mcleod

The SLP Flywheel is lighter than stock, not the PP. The SLP PP is supposed to offer 30% more clamping force.
SLP's lightweight steel billet flywheel for the 1993-1997 LT1/6-speed Camaro/Firebird weighs 7 lbs. less than the stock cast iron flywheel. Less reciprocating weight means faster revs and the engine climbs into the power band quicker. Our pressure plate offers 30% more clamping force than stock.

Probably what Gregg said. I had the SLP disc and PP. 5,000 miles later i swapped the disc and pp and flywheel with all Mcleod parts. I just did it for better peice of mind. Since i didn't know what was wrong with my other setup.

If only the flywheel is lighter why are the holes drilled in the SLP PP?

The flywheel IS 7lbs lighter. However, This is what SLP says about the pp.

[i]SLP's pressure plate offers 30% more clamping force than stock and weighs 4 lbs. less.

The SLP pressure plate is made by Valeo. There are only 2 designs on the pressure plate, since Valeo has the patents. One is stock (which everyone else including McLeod uses and spraypaints) and the SLP one. The SLP one is much lighter when you hold them both in your hands. I like the SLP one. I am using it right now.

No they aren't. The teeth on my SPEC stage 3 PP made by valeo are ALOT thicker than the stocker that came out. Same design, but alot stronger.

Patriot- How much power are you putting down? Are you using a Mcleod disk or SLP?

If I'm not mistaken, the SLP pressure plate is actually the original design for the LT4 Vette.

Ummm... The SLP PP has holes drilled all around the perimeter, so I'd bet that it's lighter than stock.
