Lightbulb Those that removed the splash guard inside

Since my car no longer sees rain and such I was thinking of leaving off the splash guard under the car so my CAI could possibly function more efficiently.

I was just wondering if anyone has done this and actually seen any improvement and had any problems with the splash guard removed

I removed mine and you can hear my cai sucking loud!@ although i have a 52mm tb and a maf. it sucks like a madman. i would think that it helps by recieving more airflow

Note: mine sees no rain either.

Did either of you notice any gains at the track?

I just opened a big wedge shape in mine with a dremel tool so it sorta scoops the air into the hole.

Seems to work fine.
Working on a shield to protect the K&N filter so water doesn't hit it but not hurt the airflow.

just rig up a chicken wire shield and put plastic over part of it (where u can draw a line straight from the hole to the filter, so the air flows around it but the water gets deflected down, just use the chicken wire as a net and block off a specific portion, the wire wont effect anything, actually might block leaves/paper

Well, i just removed them both when i installed the CAIs, so i have no basis for comparison of before and after results of removal.

Too much work for just that. car will not see rain as I said

Has anyone seen any gains at the track from doing this?

I've had mine off for a year now. It makes the filter easy to remove at the track. I didn't feel a SOTP difference by just removing the shield, but it should be worth some hp by removing the filter at the track. JMO.

You're misunderstanding. I will not be yanking the filter. Just the splash guard!

I'll bet those grates are designed to push air up into the engine compartment. Also where your filter is.
