?for those with electric wp
i am having a problem with the car overheating and it only does it after driving around for about 10-15 min. it wont overheat at an idle. i have had a electric wp for about 2 years. i havent put many miles on it but i guess it could still be going out. what i am wondering is what have other peoples pumps done when they go out. do they stop working all together or what? i cant seem to figure out why its overheating. i have changed the thermostat and bled the air from the system but still have this problem. any help would be greatly appriacited.
Re: ?for those with electric wp
Mine hasn't gone out or anything so I can't give you pointers about what to look for, but I would think that it either works or it doesn't. If you have a bad connection or ground it might be causing the pump to turn on and then off when you are driving and hit a bump or something. I would rig a LED light to the power wire on the pump and run it in your dash. If the light is on then your pump has power, if not then there is your problem.
Re: ?for those with electric wp
The pump is spinning, but you are overheating ?
(You can check this by running the pump with the radiator cap off)
Assuming the pump is running and your wiring has not changed;
I'd make sure the radiator doesn't have debris all over it.
Have you changed/added coolant lately?
Being too far off a 50/50 mix can cause overheating.

Re: ?for those with electric wp
Check to make sure the WP is turning and pumping fluid. And you want to make sure it is turning the right way, that should be a given but dont know where you got the pump/etc so make sure it is rotating the right way.
Check for debri on the front of the radiator and condensor.
Are the fans coming on?
Do you still have the air dam that forces air to the radiator at speed?

Re: ?for those with electric wp
never had a problem until about a week ago. so i am sure the pump is turning the right way because it worked for 2 years. maybe i just need to try to bleed the system more?
Re: ?for those with electric wp
I had a wire shorting out that caused the same problem. This wire was for the waterpump. Start with the basics, check all connections.
What I did was hook up a lamp to my pump so its on when the pump is running. Too lazy to run it through to the cabin though!
I have tucked neatly under the hood thats quick and easy to check.

Re: ?for those with electric wp
checked all of the wiring to wp and it was good. but still having the same problem. it comes up to about 170 where it use to run all of the time and takes about 10-15 minutes of in town driving and then the temp starts to slowly rise. does anyone know off a way and test the wp and make sure it is pumping like it should? and by the way i put a new rad. cap on it. so now i know i have bled the air out, replaced tstat and changed rad. cap. any other ideas?
Re: ?for those with electric wp
you are talking about the second hose from the top right? because the very top is for the overflow cap i think. but yes with the cap off water flows from the second hose.
