Question Those with dynatech longtubes

Anyone else with the dynatech longtubes that have the slip on collectors have problems with them having exhaust leaks where the collector meets the primaries of the headers? I noticed the tabs on a few overhanged off the edge a bit so I filed them down so they were fluch because it wasnt pulling the collector on all the way when I was tightening the screws but its still leaking. I'm gonna try welding the rest of the extra tabs they give you to each corner and see if that helps but who else had this problem and what did you do to fix it? thanks

I think thats the only downfall to these headers, otherwise I've been pretty happy with them.

Hey Trey, I told a friend about my problem and that I was thinking of having them welded too but he pointed out that that might not solve the problem completely. His reasoning behind this was that the area in the center of the collector in between all the tubes would most likely not be able to be welded because of the cramped space and if you have a leak there then welding would be pointless. He suggested copper RTV which I plan on doing. It's kind of ghetto but I won't have to take my headers off and re-install them with the collectors on and if I **** enough in there it should seal if I let it sit long enough. It might only last a few months at a time depending ( they say you can use RTV to make your own head gaskets if necessary so they should be able to withstand the heat) but I think it might be a better option to welding since welding might not solve the problem 100%. Another thing I thought of was a rubber o-ring to fit on the inside where the tube meets the collector but I would have to find something very high temp to withstand the temperatures. I dunno, just a thought.

RTV will hold for 8.27 seconds...

best bet is just filling it with exhuast putty, slipping on collectors and then weld to the death

"No way will RTV hold up."

That's what I thought too.
However, I've used the Copper RTV on my Y-pipe to Cat flange and it's been fine for a year or so. I just took it apart this week to check it and the RTV still looked new.
I've also used it on my EGR tube connection at my headers with no problem.
The stuff's come a long way!
