Those in Chicago suburbs w/ stall converter...

I just installed a vig2800 stall in my car and it seems real loose. I don't know anyone with a stall so I wondered if there's anyone in the Chicago suburbs that has a mild stall that I could meet up with to tell me if my converter is just loose or if that's the way it's supposed to be. I just need something to compare it to. I live in the south suburbs but work up North in schaumburg.
Thanks.

What rear gears do you have? It makes a difference in how the converter feels.

Re: Those in Chicago suburbs w/ stall converter...

The problem is that i'm not sure i like the vig2800 all that much. It seems to stall at a little over 3000rpm but is very loose up till that point. I have to rev to 2500 from a stop just to keep up with other traffic, and then leave it at 2500 till i eventually get to 40. Lots of people rave about them on this board so I'm not sure if all stalls are like this. Don't get me wrong, it's great at WOT and pulls like crazy. Many people say they act just like stock until you floor it, but mine is way too loose to compare it to a stock converter. I was hoping to find someone in the area with a stall in the 2400-3200 range so I would have something to compare mine to or they could drive my car and tell me if it's normal or not. If this is how any 2800 converter is, then i plan to go with a lower stall, but if my 2800 is just loose then i would send it back or buy another brand. it's just not what i expected from all the positive things i've hard about stalls.

When I first had the same converter put in I thought it might be a bit much, but soon got use to it. After the 3.73's were put in it took less gas to get the car moving. My car also came with the 3.23's stock. Give it time, it'll grow on ya!

I personally believe that what you're experiencing is completely normal with the Vigilante 2800 (like you said, it actually stalls a little higher than its advertised rating). I too once had a Vig 2800 in my old '00 Z28 and it seemed much like you described: Very loose w/ 3.23's on normal acceleration and pulled hard at full throttle...It also made my car with the Loudmouth much louder because of the higher revs to get moving (made the car sound like crap at part-throttle too!).

If you want though, I live in Schaumburg and could meet up with you real quickly and go for a quick ride to tell you if there is a problem or not. Let me know via PM if you want to meet up for a few minutes?

BTW, what color is your '95 Z28?

Mike
