Thinking of purchasing 1996 Z28 6 Speed / Needs Work HELP???

Hi,

So I thought I would ask the experts.

I am thinking of purchasing a 1996 Z28 6 speed for $2500. It has 112K miles, leather interior, keyless, power windows, locks, cd player. It is a hard top coupe (no t-tops unfortuanatly) It does run, but needs the following.

Clutch
Tune-up
Intake Gasket
Water pump
Tires
Possibly Distributor?
Electric fan motor/sensor

Also, when in reverese it pops out of gear if you do not hold it in reverse slot, and it is a bitch to get started, there is something I think with the clutch safety switch? I can get the labor side of the repairs done for about $1000.00

Aside from these things, it does run good.

So my questions are.

1. Is this a good buy?

2. Can I add t-tops aftermarket?

3. Assuming this is a good buy, What parts are the best to use as far as clutch, tires, ect. I am into performance, and would not want to use stock parts.

Thanks, any info is appreciated.

I would look around for a t-top 6 speed car. You could find one for around 5-6k which would be cheaper than all the stuff you plan on doing.

That car is going to cost a fortune to get up to speed it looks like. I would not give him more than $1k for it, it just flat out needs too much work.

Having to hold it in reverse is foreshadowing a tranny rebuild in the cards...

How is the body of the car? All of the parts and tires you need will easily tally up to close to the 1500-2000 grand mark. And as mentioned above, it sounds like you may need a tranny overall adding additional cost. I would either pass or have him knock the price down another grand.

I would love to have a hardtop M6 car. Does not look like too much work. I'd give $2K for it.
