Thinking of a cam swap, need some input.

I'm thinking about doing a cam swap to something a little more aggressive. I installed the CC305 and ported heads, which were done locally, about 6 years ago. The car ran OK with the setup with a best time of 12.3@109 with a 3600 stall and auto trans. I was only at the track twice with the setup and the 2nd time it was colder and couldn't hook but ran a higher trap speed, 110-111 range. Since I've swapped to a 6 speed so I'm not sure what it runs now. The engine doesn't drop in power until about 6050 RPM so I think the heads are flowing OK.

The bottom end is stock with about 91K on it. Have all the supporting internal and bolt on mods already so I don't think it will cost much more than a cam, new springs, gaskets, larger fuel injectors (still using the stock ones) a new tune and my time. Someday when this bottom end gives up I plan on doing a 383 with a fresh set of heads.

My car is not a daily driver and only gets driven a few times a month. Do I go with an off the shelf cam or go custom, like thru Lloyd or AI? Will the work and expense of the swap be worth the gain in HP? What would be a rough estimate of HP gain? 25? 35? 45?

Thanks for any input guys.

No one has up graded from the Hotcam or the CC305 with gains?

Maybe I'd be better off using the money to put a 150 shot on it.

If you go off-the-shelf, pick something with a modern cam lobe like a CC503.
You can make more power with a customized grind, Lloyd, Phil or Bret can hook you up.
Complimenting the cam with a set of ported heads will really wake the car up.

Don't forget to get it tuned.

The heads one the have been ported but I'm not sure how great they are. I wanted to wait until I had the engine rebuilt to put a new set of heads to match the bottom end, which is I was thinking of doing a cam swap for now. I think I will call and look into the custom grinds.
