Thinking about trading up to a 4th Gen any suggestions?

I've got an 88 Camaro Sport Coupe with a 5.0L V8. I love my Camaro don't get me wrong but I always really wanted a 4th Gen. I just turned 18 about a week ago and i'm getting serious about buying a 4th gen Z28. What should I look for when I go and buy these cars? And how much do you guys think I should pay for one? I'm asking you guys b/c u've been through this before and well I'm a noob when it comes to the 4th gens lol. Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated. Thanks

The first thing you do is buy the yr of F-body you want even if it means waiting a little longer to get it dont settle. Also have somebody who has one check it out before you buy it.

1995 is the best model year for an LT1 car. OBD-I reflashable computer (94-95 only), mass air fuel injection (94-97) and vented Optispark distributor (95-97). For something in really nice shape (~50-75K miles) and stock, figure around $6500-7500. If it's modded extensively and still is low mileage and mint, figure around $9-10K. If it has 100K+ miles and isn't in stellar condition, figure about $4.5-5K.

BUY A 93!!! SPEED DENSITY ROCKS!!!!

Seriously, figure out what you want to deal with and don't.

93-94 had a non-vented opti distributor, and it's a very common upgrade to convert to vented. With the non-vented you don't have any options (good ones at least) on a better timing set.

93 you have to burn chips, 94+ are the reflashable computers.

93 runs off of speed density (No MAF = YAAY!!!!), 94+ runs a MAF.

96-97 were OBDII, and a PITA with the computer at times.

95 Was a pretty good year, but nothing exceptional. Seems like it got the best of both worlds.

Do some shopping. I got the Purple Pearl T/A, a head/cam proven 12 second car that's pretty extensively modded, for $6000 with 92K on it and she's been great the whole time I've owned her. Third owner too. There's plenty of cheap deals out there to be found because the LS1 had driven the LT1 prices down soooo much.

Oh, check your insurance. Make sure that's not going to be a show-stopper first.

Good luck!

I don't think insurance is going to be a problem just as long as I don't have to take out a loan. Right now i'm paying 120 a month for liability on my 88. Yes I know i'm getting raped lol but actually it's not a big dent in my wallet. I'm on my parents insurance so that helps too. Year doesn't matter but i'm not going to spend any higher than 3 grand. And i'd much rather have a 94 over anything else. Thanks for your suggestions and I will check out that post.
