Arrow Thinking about building the LT1 up!!

well guys, i own a 06 mustang GT and 97 LT1 formula. my LT1 has been sitting on the driveway like 8 months and i never drive her anymore..

i wanna go fast and i don't wanna void my stang's warranty and since the LT1 is paid off, i am thinking about building her up.

it has 134k miles on and where should i start to build her up?

i am thinking to build her up with used parts.. can't afford all those new parts. i am looking to get high 11s with her.

so what do i need to do? where do i need to start?

thanks!

Prep:make sure its all in good shape!
plugs $15
wires $55
change oil $25
change rear end fluid $18
opti $210-320
fuel filter $10

N/A route

stage 1:
Cold air induction $140-220
Tb bypass $3
Tranny cooler $20
exhaust cut out $50 for it with installation
remove cats $10
short throw shifter (m6) $85?
disable cag's (m6) $2

Stage 2:
longtubes (coated) $410
catback or true duals w/ x pipe $210- recommended because cheaper better sounding and better gains
Electric water pump $180 (cant remember)
Gears 4:10's for m6 3:73's for a4 $220 if you do it
ta Cover $170
sticky tires $220
Madz28 tune $160
Roller tip Rockers ie: 1.6 crane golds $250

Stage 3:
Stall converter $420
cam $225
Upgrade valvtrain $350
heads: ported, polished, milled, bigger valves? $sky's the limit
Madz28 retune $75

Stage 4:
build up the bottom end and go over previous mods, spray on top of it? $big money

Spray route:

cai, cut out, ignition system, colder plugs, madz28 tune to retard timing, ta cover, 100 shot.

thats about the order i did mine in and it all worked out very well. i'm sure i missed something.

With that many miles on the motor, maybe you should do the opposite of what everyone here does. Build up the suspension and rear end first. Use the power you have now as effectively as possible. Then build a motor on the side and drop it in all at once with the supporting mods.

With that kind of mileage, I would probably stick with some safer mods like exhaust work, intake work, and a good tune. As mentioned above, the suspension and rearend would be good things to upgrade as well. With that many miles, I'm sure the suspension could benefit from new bushings as a minimum.

thanks guys..

i really don't wanna have just bolts on because i wanna go fast.. i don't mean 10 sec but i wanna be around low 12s - high 11s. with spray, i wanna be like mid-low 11s. i ran 13.4 bone stock in my stang and it is fast. to make the stang fast is a lot of money and my buddies suggested me to build up the LT1 and have a race car and at the same time still have a daily driver fun car. also it makes sense, even if i brake with my LT1, i don't have to worry about it because i already have a stang and i can fix the LT1 whenever i can..

well, critter, that was a great post, i will keep that in mind.. also what did your car put down with those mods and sure what did you run?

i have 134k miles on my car and only 7k on new rebuilt tranny. my buddies will check my engine and see if it is in good shape.. if yes, i will go for it without building the bottom end because i am not looking for 10 sec passes.

thanks again..

Now that is a very good question..

i honestly don't know and i do not wanna do anything untill i calculate and see how much would it cost me actually and decide..

i say i can spend like 3 grand to this car.. (not all it once, seperately, slowly)

i definetely wanna have an aggressive cam and maybe post my heads.. LT4 intake, LT headers, cold air intake, new plugs and wires and sure new opti. and stall converter..

Look into the LEx packages found at eportworks.com
or the AI packages found at advancedinductions.com
both are good for the money, and both have their strengths and weaknesses.

LT headers, check with supporting venders for pacesetters
I would run a, x-pipe and bullet mufflers, somewhat cheap, and sound better

CAI - look at the marketplace, or if u buy new - the lingenfelter one is the cheapest at 165

plugs - ngk tr-55s

wires - MSDs from summit are 85ish

opti - the accel units are normally pretty good, otherwise find Dal on shoebox's website, he has them for pretty cheap too
