Unhappy Things are starting to go south on the Dart LTx block..

It is apparent that Dart doesn't even have a prototype LTx block yet. They are evaluating retooling costs. This does not look good.

These are standard practices for any project that involves new product develoment. Engineers do not get tooling prices unless they already done the developement for the product, because it is hard to quote without prints. And by the time you are to this stage of a program it is already approved for a companies budget. Most purchasing/engineering groups will wait for a few quotes before they decide which firm they will give business to and at times this may take up to 6 weeks simply because people sit on their hands and cannot make a descision on the price.

Odds are they are at the stage to get pricing. Once this is done management will have to bless the purchase and then you will have to wait probable another 4-8 weeks until the firm can finish making the tool . So the bottom line is I wouldn't sweat it because this is just part of the process of making a new product.

I can't disagree too much with what MatLT1 said but I have to think they already have a pretty good idea on tooling costs simply due to the fact than an LTx block is so very similar to a standard SBC. I suspect they're really reevaluating the market for this product in today's environment. It looks to me that the majority of hot rodders out there are either using the standard SBC or the LSx series engines having passed our engines by....

Honestly I don't know why someone didn't do this years ago. Does anyone have any idea how easy it would be to have a big cube LTx block and still be able to use the stock parts that go along with it?! PCM, optispark, etc. It's a no branier IMO.

What's even worse is my hawk has been off the road for 10 years and it's time for a rebirth and this would have been the perfect engine for it.

I would be very surprised if this ever came to fruition. There isn't any market out there for an LTx block. The market is geared too much toward the LSx end.
Just my opinion though.
