Is there a way to monitor whether an elec.H2O pump is operating or failed?

I will be installing an elec. H20 pump and wanted to monitor it when and if it would fail. I would hate for that thing to go out on me and me not know it and make a big boo boo of my engine.

Does anyone make somehting to monitor the pump?

Is there anything I can make myself?

TIA

An ammeter would tell you whether or not it's working by its current draw.

They make a Waterpump Watchdog. It comes in a kit and will do what ya want.

My temp let me know really fast when mine wasn't working. (Took the ground off and forgot to hook it back up)

This is how I monitored mine. I installed a relay to power the pump and also connected an led or similar to the side of the relay where the pump would run off of. If the light wasn't on the pump wasn't on. I installed the light in the dash by the left driver vent.

This would tell you that there's voltage across the pump, but that doens't mean the pump is running - only that the relay is working.

I would like to have something wired up where a light would go ON telling me that there is something wrong.

That would be correct but if the relay is working then you will at least know that the pump is getting power if the relay were to ever go bad then you would know imediately. This is an inexpensive way to tell maybe not the best but it does what its supposed to!

That's true, but my concern would be the motor dying. In that case the LED would still be lit, but no water would be moving.

I am not sure how the watchdog works but it sounds like maybe what monitors the actual pump not just the electronics.

EDIT: Read up on the watchdog. sounds like a very useful system. very expensive though!! 115.00

I am going to use a Flexalite fan controller to run the fans. I had the PCM programmed to turn on the primary fan at 210* and the secondary fan at 225.I am wiring an amber light on the dash to the primary fan circuit and a red light to the secondary along with a buzzer. The PCM just completes a ground to operate a relay or a light in this case. This will give me a temperature based warning if the pump stops working and enough time to shut down before engine damage.

I know a guy that makes stuff like that for a more reasonable price and they work exceptionally. PM me if you want his info b/c I don't think I can advertise for him.
