is there a way to check for messed up lifters?
I am going to have my intake manifold off to fix the gasket. Is there any way i can check to make sure the lifters are ok without taking to much apart? Same question about pushrods? Im assuming ill be able to tell if they are bent. Thanks!!
Are you having any problems that make your lifters suspect? You can pull them out and inspect each for abnormal wear, but diagnosing the inside is a little tough. The pushrods are easy to check for straightness by rolling them on a flat surface, like a piece of glass. Of course, you will have to loosen the rockers and then re-adjust them all when you put it back together.
Im getting a tapping sound. It obvously could be a valve tap, BUT the sound didnt start till after i fixed the oil leak from the intake manifold. So that would lead me to belive it is something I changed, or bumped without knowing. So i was planing on ripping everything apart again tomorrow and redo everything, and hoping something will jump out as being wrong.
The noise started after I was done and had the car on ramps to change the oil. I closed the hatch while the car was running on the ramps. It taped once or twice. Then just started tapping its little heart out. And it does increase with the speed of the motor so it would lead me to belive is something in the valve train. it idles great by the way. and sence only the lifter vally was prone to anything happening because of me. Before I had it on ramps everything was perfect, but it only idled.
IM going to redoe everything I did tomorrow and see if anything changes. Thanks in advance, looking for possibilities.

Something you might try if you think it is valve train noise: remove valve cover and let engine idle. Wear a glove or use a small rag and "lean" on each rocker on the pushrod end, one at a time, trying to isolate or change the sound you are hearing. It may merely be an adjustment problem.
