Is there a gasket on the EGR valve?

Just pulled the EGR valve off my Z to clean it, hoping to solve the SES light that comes on every once in a while, flashing a 32 EGR Failure code. There was some "gunk" on the mating surfaces of both the valve and the intake manifold. I'm almost certain that it's carbon, but it occured to me that it might be the remains of a gasket. Is there supposed to be a gasket on the EGR valve? Or is it just carbon? Thanks!

Theres supposed to be a gasket. They dont hold together so well after a long time on being in use. Mine fell in half when I took it off to block the EGR off.
