i believe they are the same. at least i know they are for f-bodies. i would think the short block would be the same in an impy as well. just different heads and such.

You people say Impala like it was something other than a CAPRICE. Something else to tuck away in the back of your mind for next time you are boneyard hunting the LT1 was the ONLY engine put into the 94-6 Roadmasters, Fleetwoods and was standard in the Roadmaster and Caprice wagons though there is at least one verified special order L99 Caprice wagon still though much of that is all the same as the LT1. The Impala got the same exact engine as all the other b-bodies and yes that bottomend is exactly the same as your f-bodies.

ah, dont get your panties in a bunch!!
j/ki actually contemplated listing the other vehicles (caprice included) that included the LT1. its not as if i wasnt aware that they came with one. i just assumed that the original poster got the point that if it was from an f/b body, it was probably the same. from now on i'll just say B-body and be done with it. and while we're at it, lets not forget the Y-bodies that came with the lt1 as well. so now we've got a solid list of corvettes, camaros, firebirds (trans am, formula, firehawk included), impallas, CAPRICE
, Roadmasters and Fleetwoods (if i forgot one, please include it. i would hate to exlude you!). k. i assumed the basic core design was the same. just wasnt sure as far as pistons were concerned. i'm familiar with all the different designs of heads, intakes, etc. all of which are not included in the shortblock, though. so theres your answer.
you should be good to go.

Yards charge enough of a premium for Impala parts or Camaro parts I wouldn't even want to ask about Vette parts though yeah they are much the same. I can pickup several b-body LT1s for under $600 places want double that and more for f-body stuff and several hundred more if even just an higher milage BEATEN Impala motor.

i see the point your making. i guess i havent really done much block shopping for myself. my best friend owns a shop and has come across some awesome deals that he in let me in on. good point made, though. i'd much rather save my money for the cheaper blocks.

Be careful though what you buy from Caprice's ...
There is a smaller displacement variant of the LT1 that is I think 4.3 Liters. It's destroked I believe, and I know for a fact that they have chinsey rods.

Interesting Info guys! I am new the Chevy game and was wondering if the LT1 blocks in other cars were the same block in the f-body. Now that I know I might have to do a little more digging and see if I cannot come up with a better deal somewhere

On the drivers side of the block cast in fairly large numbers a LT1 says 327 the L99 says 588 also behind the drivers side head is either 5700 or 4300 think you can guess which is which.
This however is a prime example of why I type out this info over and over because one person posting half bad info like this can spread and become gospel in an instant. My car came with that little engine it was reliable but beyond that was a dog below 25mph with the 2.93s at which point it woke up some, milage was not much better than an LT1 simply because the little engine had to work too hard.

Sorry ...
I guess I was jumping the gun on the fact that their chinsey lol
And your right, I do know a guy who blew one up, the rod cracked, it was disastrous ... It was sweet though cause he got an LT1 shortblock, and picked up a set of LT4 heads and intake for it. Its one beastly caprice
I believe its running high 13s or maybe a 14 flat ? I forget, but its a full weight vehicle ... Suprisingly nice actually. lol He has a cop bumper on the front of it too, you outta see how often ppl think its an unmarked car and jam on the brakes
