A testament to the tenacity of a LT1

In the process of rebuilding my engine my engine builder called me and told me I had a problem. My number 2 main cap was broken in two. My car is a salvage title car, so we assume it happened when the car was wrecked, over 50,000 miles ago

broken main cap

another shot

yet another

and the last one

There is no way my stock motor broke the cap on its own, it was definetly a impact of some sort. So we decided to replace them with these.....

These are

SO beautiful

I think that is a fair trade......

We are doing a performance rebuild. The motor actually ran GREAT with no problems right up until we pulled it. Never had a clue, never made any noise. Just blows me away. As for cost, I am in for amost 5 grand this winter already. Fully forged, ARE stage 1, and alot of other misc things...to many to mention really.

That won't work, you'd most likely put a 460 in it and wind up spending $10,000 on it

Jeesus christ, I have never seen that before. Nice 4 bolt splayed main caps though.

Thumbs up

Q I just saw the pics. I have seen stuff like thse before. If you look it had cracked some time ago. But that was the top part and did not effect the main bearing. Later when the engine was pulled and some of the bolts were removed it flixed and broke off the rest. You don't see it alot but I would say I have seen about 10 of these over the last 30 years.

the thing is a beast

on a more serious note- it ran its best after i accidently hit the rev limiter at 6700 rpms (stock motor, headers and gears with tuning)

came back adn went 13.2@106
