Temperature problems...
well this isnt my car so I am just asking for a friend... he's got a 94 lt1, with edlebrock (ceramic coated) headers, a 160 thermostat...
so generally when driving around his temperature gauge is below the first mark... so probably around 170-180 F... rarely ever touches the 185 marker...
recently he was complaining the enigne was heating up a bit... we went to the jiffy lube (they are idiots i'm glad i dont go there anymore)... but it was around 200F instead of 170... and he was a little concerned... after cruising a bit more, it settles to about 190... he jams on the throttle right before he got home, and his temperature gauge kinda shot up to about 210 or so... i could see it quickly getting hotter...
so it sat for a day in the driveway, he told his dad... and this morning he took his car out... (he couldnt stop talking about how awesome his exhaust sounded from 1 mile away
he never lets anyone else drives it so he never hears how loud and muscle like it sounds) but anyhow he comes back 5 minutes later with the gauge at about 220, and lets the car sit for a bit and the car stedilly gets hotter until it hits the red, and they turned it off..
they were thinking fans or thermostat... but i could clearly hear both fans running (loud sons of guns) and i remember the primary running when he left so the fans were properly working...
the thermostat came to mind, but like i said its been replaced with a 160 before, so likely its to new to stick...
the coolant looks full although i did notice a drop of colant on one of the metal brackets holding a hose... but it was just a drop... but it was fresh so thats important...
okay doctors there is your simptoms... whats the culperate...
remember this car generally runs at 165-170...

Re: Temperature problems...
Look for leaves and other debris between the radiator and A/C condenser. You will need to remove the plastic bracket on-top of the radiator and condenser (10 mm bolts). Also, check on the front of the condenser for debris in the air inlet.
LT1s have two cooling system air purge valves. If you have air in the cooling system, that will cause overheating.
