Car was going good today, 180, but then I leave a restraunt and notice gauge has gone way up. I pull over and purge the system, and it had air in it. Once I purge it goes to half way. Get into town, temp goes up, purge it, same thing, it has air in there, once I purge the temp goes down. Then again on my way home, pull off the highway, temp goes WAY up, pull over, purge, system has air in it, then the temp goes down and I make it home.

What could this possibly be, its got a brand new NAPA T-stat, GM Radiator cap, had the radiator taken apart and cleaned, and flushed the whole system about a week ago. I have probably purged the system 10 times or more.

CLIFFNOTES-Car keeps getting really hot, I purge the system, air comes out, temp goes down, drive for a bit and repeat the process exactly.

 

when u flushed the system did u have the bleeder valves open? if not u prob trapped air in system and it is working way out... mine did that but only twice till i got it all out

 

ya air in the system maybe pressure test it or somthing maybe it has a small leak, and make sure to bleed it while you fill it up and let it cycle for like 5 minutes with it running to get all the air out before you close the bleeder valves after filling it all the way up.

Just the other day I determined I need a new water pump cuz its leaking out the weep hole. So maybe that will fix it.

 

Well i my case it was a blown head gasket. Here how mine went
Car would over heat, I would fill her up and bleed system. 2-3 days later it would over heat agin.

From what i have read you should put the front of the car on ramps. bleed the system then let it run for 5-10 minutes with the cap off. Also make sure you have a good 50/50 mix of water and coolant.

Same problem here. The heat cycling of getting too hot multiple times finished my head gasket(s) off.

Is there a noticeable amount of moisture in the exhaust?
