Always watch your gauges. But even your sensor or connection could be bad. Check your coolant level often and never use plain hose water with all of those deposits. Doesn't do any favors to the engine. Use either radiator water or distilled water from the grocery store only.
Best way to check is with a leak down tester. But with any tester including a compression tester, you will need straight access to the spark plug holes. In my case with the Edelbrock TES headers, it will be very difficult. I would have to remove the headers to check each spark plug.
Essentially, it is a guage that will screw into your spark plug hole. For the leak down tester, you will pressurize the cylinder with compressed air and both valves closed. It will indicate a leak and you can determine if it is the gasket, rings, or valves that are bad. This is the short story but there is much more detail.
