Tell Me a Tale...?

Ok, the time keeps drawing nearer as the prices keep plummeting for me to get my damn LT1...I did a search, but didn't find an answer to this question...auto vs. manual in the way of reliability?? I'm farmiliar with stick, so learning it again is no problem...but what am I more likely going to need replacing, one before the other..? The 6 speed will be more fun, I know, but if the auto is better for whatever reason, I'll take it...

Hey man, you gotta do a search and just read, there is nothing but definitive answers to this question on this board. I have a manual. I believe that they are more reliable in the long run and cheaper to fix when they do go bad. Autos are nice when you're just sittin in traffic. Also people say that they are better for consistency at the track. But start sending it down the 1/4 mile a few times and reliability no longer becomes the question. The question changes to when it will go. Good Luck....

The 6 speed from what I hear is stronger. But then, if you start messing with power, you'll need a $2500 12 bolt rearend. Automatics do help you run more consistantly at the track and they are easier on the stock 10 bolts. I would rather have my auto at the track.

The MM6 is essentially the same tranny used in the Viper. The major difference is iron vs aluminum shift forks. Also, there are more moving parts/ sensors in an automatic to fail.

My vote: go manual

I did attempt a search, and I usually do, but it was difficult finding ones comparing them in terms of simple reliablity vs. "which is faster?" etc etc. I'm sure most questions with some dilligent searching can be answered, but this board makes my comp lag for some reason, so this helps surfing through pages of hit results.

I think the 6 speed is just more fun to drive. Good autos are great for drag racing but It's really a matter of personal preference. The manuals are pretty tough.
