Techniques for launching Nitto's
Techniques for launching Nitto's
Ok, so I get to the track on Sunday, and it's the first time out on my new Nitto's. Started at 30 PSI, shors times are 2.06, 2.07, 2.10. Drop to 20 PSI, 2.06, 2.09, 2.05, 2.04. Drop to 18 PSI, and I pull a 2.03 before heading home.
On my SZ50's I was consistently in the 1.9's with a best of 1.92 a couple of times.
What gives? I do a good burnout, and launch like I was with the street tires. Rev up to about 2500-3000, and a nice smooth clutch/throttle transfer on the lights.
Any pointers or ideas? Thanks!

I would be interested to know also, I thought I read on some post that they come with a protective layer that makes them slick at first, which you must do a few good burnouts to get rid of. Hopefully someone will come in here and confirm/deny what I remember.
Well, I've spent $0 on suspension, but I should still be hooking better than my former street tires. Last night I got it to consistent 2.03-1.99's, but not good enough. I found that if you do the burnout at about 3000 rpm till they're smoking, then another quick spin as you roll out to the line, they hook a lot better. I was doing the burnout at about 5000 rpm and I think that was spinning them too fast.
The car that pulled the 1.7 was an A4, so that makes a huge difference. If you havent driven a high HP/TQ A4 car, with a big stall and some gears, you are missing out. Amazing how easy they are to launch.
I have pulled numerous 1.8s with an a4 on 255 street tires, not even drag radials. With my m6 best on street tires was 2.1. go figure.

I agree it's tough to launch a M6 good, but come on, when you go from SZ50's to Nitto DR's, you'd expect to do a little better.
A4's are for weenies who can't launch or be consistent!!!

Actually....you're right....been so long since mine was an A4 haha. My best 60ft on Yokohama AVS Intermediates (245-50/16) was a 1.86. Oh well....

P.S. I'm still not impressed with the 17" nittos

I guess I will grant you an opinion about the nittos
But i still am impressed that they semi hold 4.33s, lol. This weekend i will be running some 26x11.5x16 MT streets, so we see how they compare.
