tci 2800 stall

i just recently bought a 95 z28 with a tci street fighter 2800 stall converter the transmission needed rebuilding every time i drove it it was ok but if i floored it or got on it a little bit the transmission would slip grind and vibrate but if i drove it normally she would shift and feel fine. when tranny guy was rebuilding my trans he said there was metal particals in the pan. and some parts were cracked (dont ask me i dont know trannys too well) i asked him if i could reuse the stall converter he said no because of all the metal particals in there. he just installed a gn converter insted. my question is can i still use the stall converter is there any way to get it cleaned out. also if it can be done how much will it cost or will i be better off buying a new one? thanks in advance

You could probably flush the unit out, but I wouldn't use it. But thats because it's TCI, not because it was used.

It can be flushed out, but you can never be sure to get everything out. That's why tranny shops don't want to take the chance of going that route. I've seen people drill and tap a hole in the side of the t.c., drain it, then plug the hole with a bolt. The trick with that is to do the same thing on each side so it will balance out, but.......I don't think I would try that.

You may want to try calling TCI and see if they can open it up and clean it. I don't know if they offer a "re-stall" service, but they have to open it up for that. You could get it changed to a 3200...that would take care of it.

I would probably go get a PI Vigilante.
