Can someone refresh my memory on a TB bypass. Is it as simple as connecting the 2 coolant lines together with a hose barb or small piece of pipe? Is there a better way of doing it?

Nope, sounds like you've got the idea. Just maybe cap the ends on the TB so you don't get dirt and junk in there.

No hose barb needed on a 1996. It should look something like this when you get through.
