T56 Tranny problem
T56 Tranny problem
Yesterday when I threw it in reverse and started backing up it popped out of gear and started grinding on me. Tried again and the same thing happened. It wouldnt pop me out if I kept it at 1k rpm with a feathered clutch.
Took it to Ammco today and they tested it out. Said it was an internal tranny problem and that it wasnt the clutch or anything.
1-6 works fine its just reverse having trouble.
My dad doesnt like that shop so I guess we will be taking it somewhere else but Im just letting everyone know.
Does it sound like synchros? Thats what Ive been hearing. My boss mentioned the linkage too and I consider him car knowledgeable. Anyone got any insite on this?
Ill be parking on the street to avoid using reverse for the next day or 2. Until we find a shop and figure out whats gonna happpen with the car. Im guessing my parents will pay since I have no money now and then I will pay them back.
Any ideas on cost? Im guessing about 500?

damn third page after only a few hours and only 6 views.
Guys I really need help on this one. My dad isnt willing to have aamco do the work. I guess he had a bad experience with them and he wants it to be done right (GM) so prices will be high. He isnt willing to pay for a job he doesnt know the reputation of. So GM in his eyes will do it right. AAmco will do a crappy job and he doesnt like them.
After picking the car up from Aamco they said it had nothing to do with my clutch, fluid level, or an external problem. It is internal of the transmission. I could have told them that but oh well.
If GM does try to tell me I need a new clutch and all that what aftermarket parts should I be looking at while Im getting this done. Maybe a trans cooler too?
Im guessing I could talk my parents into those parts because GM Stock parts will probably cost the same.
Oh and I will be paying for half the work, its not given to me.
