T56 manual and starters, just can't do it

Hi everyone,
I've had to replace 3 starters in the last 3 years. I have a 95 T56 manual tranny and everytime, the starter has seized up and refused to turn at all.

When I try to install the starter, I know I need to check the clearance between the flywheel and pinion gears, but with the dust shield either on or off the bellhousing, there is no way I can even get a finger in there! I need to know how to do this with the engine/tranny in the car...

Anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have a service manual that they can look at for me?

I drove the car a couple of months ago and it was fine, then didn't drive it for 4 months or so and I get nothing, just a click. Seems like the pinion gear is seized against the flywheel...

Kills List:
Summit mini gear reduction starter
Stock starter
Powermaster starter

Thanks in advance!

Make sure your solenoid wire is still connected tightly.

Otherwise, I've never jacked with shimming a starter and I've never had a problem, I guess......
