Re: Synthetic Oil

Its supposed to increase the life of your motor but if you mean like horsepower wise you won't really feel a differnce.

p.s. it costs like 6$ more each oil change and its difinetly worth it in my opinion....

Re: Synthetic Oil

Less wear, better flow, more protection, more horsepower.

Re: Synthetic Oil

Just yesterday I put an AMS oil super duty (12,500 mile) oil filter and 5 quarts of series 2000 0W-30 synthetic oil in my T/A. That stuff is AWESOME. My engine actually runs 5* cooler!!! And if I really hated my engine, the bottle says you can run that oil for as long as 35,000 miles! AMS oil is simply the best money can buy. HIGHLY recommend

Aside from the better lubrication and durability, you can run a thinner oil without the worries about it breaking down. This leads to a noticable increase in mileage and can be felt in the seat of the pants.

One note...
If you switch to synthetic and use extended drain intervals, you STILL need to change your filter every 3000 miles. The oil itself might last much longer than Dino oil, but it still gets dirty just as fast.

I use Mobil 1 in all my cars. I buy it at WalMart in 5 gallon jugs for around $19 and use AC Delco filters. So far so good.

That must be one big *** jug. I'm guessing you meant to say 5 quart jug. That's the same thing I buy.

Re: Synthetic Oil

Your're correct, I should have said "five quarts" instead of " five gallons"

Re: Synthetic Oil

Been using non-synthetic Castrol GTX 20w-50 and puralator filters for a long time now and my LT1 seems to be running pretty good.

P.S. Only costs me about $10 for each oil change every 2500-3500 miles.

Re: Synthetic Oil

i would be interested in switcing to synthetic but i hear some stories that its bad to switch to synthetic after your engine has been using regular engine oil the rest of its previous life? is that correct? and if there is a procedure to do to switch over id like to know.

some say mix them gradually (1qt synt + 4 qts dino, then 2qts synth+3qts dino, etc.)
i myself, just switched over fully synthetic (mine has 50k on it)
i might change back though
the price for synthetic is outrageous compared to conventional oil and considering i change mine every 3000 miles, it just doesn't seem worth it

Re: Synthetic Oil

I picked up a consistent .2 tenths in my old race car by going to Royal Purple. On inspection, the bearings seemed to be a lot happier with it too. I was skeptical and it took a lot of encouragement for me to switch from Kendall (which is what I always use to use) to RP, but I'll never switch back.
