Re: switching to vented opti

to go to vented, you need the opti, the timing cover, the opti harness's(wiring and vacuum) and a longer dowel installed in your cam, or a cam for a vented opti

It is needed, if you get all the parts yourself,
This
is the cheapest I've found it, and I would recommend new, just for the fact that these do corrode

Re: switching to vented opti

i did not buy an electrical harness when i converted mine, i went to the dealer and bought the plug end (plastic piece) only for $3 and change, my dad is good with electrical and pulled the pins out of the old plug and re attached the wires to the pins in the new plug, took about 20 minutes and only $3

Re: switching to vented opti

Dude, screw all that parts crap. I've seen a vent kit that you ad on to your nonvented opti. I know mid-america sells them for LT1 vettes ($14). Basically it's just a plastic piece and a rubber hose that you hook to intake vacuum. The other end goes to the bottom of the opti. I think the non-vented has 3 small holes in the bottom. You drill out one hole and connect the vacuum line. I can't remember if you plug the other holes or not. Try a web search, I think GM high-performance mag did a write up as well.
