switching to the cc306 or gm847
Re: switching to the cc306 or gm847
it is best to run the comp R's with those cams because you'll be running the rpm's up to 65-6700 rpm or so, and i think stock lifters are only good to around 61-6200(someone correct me if i'm wrong), LT4 extreme duty timing chain, or, what i'd suggest wich will also free up some hp, is get a cloyes double roller for like 80$ at cmotorsports.com and then get an electric waterpump. those 2 together work out to be about the same if not cheaper than the extreme duty timing chain.

918's will work, installed height might play a role at what point they bind tho
jump on google or yahoo and search under rollmaster timing sets or cloyes timing sets
and then look for the sets that are available for hydraulic roller blocks (small block chevy of course)
rollmasters are nice billet machined pieces and they cost about the same as cloyes
lots of people use stock lifters with those cams
lots of people switch too the R's (875's) also but they can be a pita too adjust
another option is comp 850's, they are basically a better OEM type lifter that dont seem too have as much adjustment issues as the R's

being as i have a '97, i didnt even think about that
yes from what i know, you will need too swap too a vented style opti and '95+ timing cover too use one of those timing sets
which swapping too the vented style stuff isnt a bad idea in the 1st place

Re: switching to the cc306 or gm847
well someone makes a double roller timing set for the earlier optis nut it costs like $400+
maybe try the lunati set (not a double roller, its a link belt type chain like stock but might be of better quality (?))
or check into the GM stuff (LT4 or HD sets)
i'm not sure if those will work either tho
try searching those cams on here, you will find a **** ton of info on them

If more power is what you are after then some ported heads would really wake that cam up. I bet youd be a lot more satisfied with the results of that cc305 and ported heads than a big cam, stock heads.
