Question Switchign from D to N while driving.

I have read many tiems that its bad for the tranny (A4), if you manualy shift it, but I havent seen this asked before.

Is it bad to go from Drive to Neutral manualy? Many times when I accelerate, the tranny stays in gear after I let off and it doesnt up shift as quick as I woudl like it, so I have been gettign used to jsut putting it in neutral to keep it from staying in a lower gear at higher RPMs (even if it only for 3 seconds or so). I dont like puting stress on the engine like that, so I try to avoid it.

Could I be doign any harm by doing this? Or is it ok?

No you can't, when i run through the 1/4 i always shift it in neutral, no matter what i'm driving
I'm not a trans expert but I don't see why it would hurt it to shift it manually anyway. It's going through all the same motions it normally would regardless of if you manually shift it or if it shifts itself. I wouldn't down shift it when your going along but you get the point :-)

sounds like a sticking valve or pressure problem.. JMO BUt I dont believe it hurts the trans shifting to neutral.... I do it sometimes.. Just dont rev the eng to 5600RPMs and shift back...

OK thx for the feed back. I do it mainly cus I'm used to a manual, and thats what I used to do instead of a higher gear when I knew I wasnt goan keep going.

n2ceptor, its doesnt feel liek anythign is wrong, its just one of those times when the car doesnt knwo if it wants to shift or not. I dotn fully trust any computer to do the right thing all the time lol.
