Suspension experts: Bilstein, or KYB AGX adjustable shocks?

I searched on this, but didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

If I use stock springs, is one set(Bilstein or KYB) better than the other?

I may lower the car with a Eiback pro kit, would that change my decision?

Thanks,
Dan

I am no expert But I have $.02. I finally went for the revalved Bilsteins. Wished I would have the first time, no doubt about it. I have the pro kit thought, so if you've got the stock springs I don't think you need the revalves. I would recommend the revalves if you go to the pro kit though. Go to the AutoX section of this site or do a serch in that section. I learned ALOT in that section about shocks/springs/ect.

Pardon my ignorance , but what is the revalving for? Was it because you have the Eibach springs? Did they just revalve a new set of Bilsteins, or is revalving like remanufactured?

Sorry. I had a set of sh#@y shocks with the pro kit and I kept having probs with the fronts blowing their seals. The shocks didn't have enough travel with the Eibachs- hence my front end sat 1 1/2" LOWER than anybody else with the pro kit. My fault- I bought the crappy shocks. Bilsteins are Bilsteins from Bilstein. Revalved Bilsteins are Bilsteins that have had their dampening insides "tuned" to not bottom out and have less/harder recoil. My revalves came from Sam Strano. If I am correct, he has a deal with Bilstein and they "tune" the new shock at Bilstein using Strano's specs. The shocks came from Bilstein (bought and paid for through Strano Performance) in the original boxes, only opened because they revalved them to Strano's specs at the factory.
Some people will no doubt disagree, but if you plan on lowering springs, go with the revalved shocks (only $75ea to revalve and only need to do the 2 fronts). My experience= overall better in the long run. If you go with Bilstein and want top notch service/expertise, go to Strano.
Again, just my $.02.

Thanks again. Good info. So I gather that the standard Bilsteins are for the stock springs.

Yes. Some will say the revalves are overkill on even the pro kit, but for $150 more on that kind of investment, I have been told enough about it to make me except the extra cost for piece of mind. The regular HD's are more than sufficient on the stock springs.

I am running the KYB AGX shocks on my 94.
I like them alot but I am running a Drag set up, Eibach drag launch kit, BMR TA, Nittos on 15 inch Welds. If lowering the car the revalved Bilstiens are the way to go.
I needed the adjustablity of the AGXs and they are alot cheaper than the HALs or Konis.

So do people actually have problems with the Bilsteins if the car is lowered and they aren't revalved, or is it only in extreme cases.

It's interesting because you can buy matched Bilstein springs and shocks from www.thunderracing.com and www.shox.com and I think they are the normal Bilstein HD's and they say the springs lower the car by 1". I don't think the shocks are revalved in that setup and it's a 1" lower.

Thanks,
Dan

I have the Eibach pro springs and the regular bilstein HD's, not revalved, at least I don't think so...
Haven't had a problem. I'm am not exactly sure what is the significant difference if they were revalved...

I'm very happy with my Bilsteins. When I get new shocks, I will probably purchase the 2-way adjustable Koni's for the fronts.

Thanks for the reply. That's the exact setup I am looking at. How would you describe the difference compared to the stock suspension? How much did the ride comfort change? Is the suspension teeth chattering stiff now, or just tighter? Body roll, understear or overstear? How about off the line traction?

Thanks again. Any help you can give would be much appreciated, especially since that is the setup I am looking at.
