surging idle

When my car is cold it runs just fine, then when it warms up at idle the rpm's drop to below 500 then bounce back up like normal. It even does it when i am between gears. It does this for like 5 then it runs fine. When the rpm's it almost wants to die but it never does. Where do i start?

Re: surging idle

Do you have a tune for your cam? If not your idle will be crazy.

There was not a problem until just recently. the cam has been in the car for almost 3 years now.

Re: surging idle

If you don't already have a scanner, now's the time to get one. However, there are a few things you can check by eye. Take out and clean both the IAC and EGR. My feeling is your EGR isn't closing all the time. After you clean it, try moving it with suction to see that it moves freely. Look or I should say listen for engine vacuum leaks. If that doesn't help, try unplugging the MAF to see if it smoothes out. Be real careful if you have a cotton filter, many people over oil them and it contaminates the MAF. If you clean it, make sure it's cool and the engine is off. If none of that helps, have your injectors cleaned. I would clean the injectors anyway, I clean several cars and the difference is unbelievable. If you have a fuel pressure gage, monitor the pressure when you are having the problem. Be sure your fuel filter is new.

If none of that helps, it's time to start looking at sensors with a scanner.

Good luck.
I like your signature by the way.
