supprised i got a 4 bolt main block

i just tore down the bottom end and i got a 4 bolt main block. i was really supprised because i thought vettes were the only lt1 4bolt blocks.the recent owner gave all the records and it shows that a short block was installed under warranty.the car has 80k and the motor has 35k and you can still see the hone marks in the cylinders.any idea why they would put in a 4 bolt block under warranty?

I've been told that all replacement motors were 4 bolts. i have a buddy that had his motor replaced under warranty in his 96Z and it was a 4 bolt. Congrats on the good luck.

I thought the 97 Camaro SS had an LT4 which was 4 bolt main. I could be wrong though.

I just pulled mine and found a 4-bolt main as well. Too bad that I built a replacement motor before pulling the pan.

Correct. Anytime GM replaced a shortblock under warranty they used a 4 bolt replacement. I have one on a stand in my garage waiting for a 383 rotating assembly.

I would be the buddy that he is talking about. Yes its true. All GM service replacement LT1s back in the day were all 4-bolt mains.
