supercharger question

Im about to buy a powerdyne supercharger for my z28 and was wondering if i will still need my mass air sensor with the supercharger. this should be an easy question to answer so thanks in advance. one other question ... would a 4.5 pound boost be to much of a load on the stock bottom half? wait! one other question... will a supercharger work well with my GM hot cam kit that i have installed? any help would be great!

THANKS!

Yes, you need the maf. No, 4.5# isn't much of a load. Your safe up to aruond 6-7 without an intercooler on the stock bottom end. Works fine with htocam (though there are much better cams for blowers)

I'd suggest you go to the forced induction section and do some searches. The powerdyne system is going to limit what you can do in the future. Vortech and ATI systems give you a lot more flexibility to grow them as your mod fever continues. I started with a 6# vortech and have graduated to a 10#, intercooled system. Your stock bottom end won't handle more than 6# without cooling, but I'm sure down the road you'll be rebuilding the bottom end to make it stronger and then will want more boost.

What are your goals? If your goals do not include a rebuild than stay away from a supercharger. Personally, if you go the blower route than I would highly recommend going with either a Vortech or ATI. Both systems are great and allow for more potential in the future. The Powerdyne is a decent kit but after you do a engine rebuild you will want to push more boost through your car. Unfortunately powerdyne does not have a blower that will produce enough boost efficiently to support a larger cubic inch motor.

Well i started out with the 4.5 psi kit and now i have the 6 psi kit with what is in my mods, i think im having a little blow by right now but not to bad , I'm going to be doing a 383 soon and im gooing to be keeping the powerdyne,i know its not the best but oh well it will have to do,i did hear that they have a gear driven head unit but i think you have to adapt oil line to make this work but it is also good for up to 18 psi then so i think i might try to get that to work for me in the future, but for now im very very happy with my powerdyne i am making close to 400 RWHP on a stock botom half and STOCK CAM I think thats pretty good for a low budget BLOWER...
