supercharger or lt4 conversion?

i can get a powerdyne supercharger kit minus intercooler for about $1000. so im leanin towards that but i also like the lt4 conversion. whitch is better? what are some factors i should think about? and just for s&g's...which gets better gas mileage?

The LT4 would probly get better mileage but more gains would come from the procharger....I'm thinking you have to high compression to run it though.

Re: supercharger or lt4 conversion?

If i was you i would try lloyd elliot or advanced induction(both supporting vendors) for a heads cam setup...its cheaper than the lt4 and will make more power. The lt4 setup might make 425 horse(like advertised) at the flywheel, but good h/c setup mentioned above could easily make 380-400 horse at the wheels for about the same cost.

The Blower would be kinda nice...if it is in good shape and working correctly, but i have heard that they are hard on the stock bottom end and can cut its life short.

LT4 conversion is a waste of your money!!!!
Go with heads+cam swap from lloyd elliot you will love the results!! It will be much more reliable that supercharger, better fuel economy, and you will refresh your top end. Fr the price of complete supercharger (+ supporting mods), you wan have LE2 heads ca package + all bolt ons you will need to support it (headers, catback, 52mm TB, fuel pump, injectors, tuning)...Its just much better solution!!!
Here is the link

ps. You will LOVE IT!!!

if your set on one of those two CHARGER itll be alot more fun then the lt4 and its always fun to have the charger whine and then the exhaust rumble together it sounds mean

Re: supercharger or lt4 conversion?

What kinds of fun you are talking abut??
A fun when he will be rebuilding his bottom end, cus he spun a bearing or melt a piston???
Or maybe a fun knowing that you spend a lot more money, and you get less power than your friend with safe H/C setup???
To safely run supercharger you will have to lower the compression to 9:1 (or less), or run it with 5psi or less. And with that amount of boost you will get much less gain than with H/C swap. Add a intercooler, forged pistons and the supercharger option will go over $6000. I saw a lot more people that messed up their engines with supercharger (even 5pis of boost), than H/C setup!!!
And the supercharger whine will be barely noticeable, unless you put a root type supercharger on LT1 (a lot of $$), as you have on Cobra's...

Re: supercharger or lt4 conversion?

A heads/cam installation can be just as detrimental to engine life as a blower can. Maybe you nick a cam bearing when you're installing the cam, maybe you spin the motor too high, who knows. I've seen just as many people rebuild a motor they receintly install a cam in as I've seen people rebuild a motor where they busted a ringland from too much boost.

Blower whine is quit noticable with any blower that uses straight cut gears.

As for reliability, it's all in the tune. If a heads/cam car starts detonating, it's no less destructive than if a blown car starts detonating. Again, it's the tune that makes or breaks a setup. BTW, a blower car generally will get better gas mileage than a heads/cam car (assuming you can control the right foot) since you're only using more fuel when you're actually making boost.

As for your supporting mods... headers, catback, 52mm TB, fuel pump, injectors, tuning... Most people have already done the majority of those mods by the time they get around to looking for real power.

Terrible 1, for the amount of money you're looking to spend, skip the Powerdyne and get a nicer unit like an ATI or Vortech. Something that uses gears instead of a fiberglass belt. In the end it will be more reliable, and it will give you room to grow.

Re: supercharger or lt4 conversion?

honostly I think it comes down to personal preferance...LT4 is a proven setup (as is similar H/C setups mentioned), so are forced induction setups i.e. the ATIprochargers (personally i'd pay the money to get an ATI P600B over the comparable vortechs or powerdynes). There's so many variables involved (i.e. ease of installation, where each system makes its power low or high rpms, accelerated wear of diff parts) that there is no cut and dry answer. Both work.

You just gotta ask yourself, do I want a vacuum, or do I want positive atmospheric pressure in my intake?

Re: supercharger or lt4 conversion?

be cheaper and yield more power to have your heads ported and go w/ a different aftermarket cam rather then the LT4...as for the blower, Lt1s in stock form really arent blower friendly...Id throw the blower on and start saving for the rebuild when your stock block bites it. Then you'll have a badass engine and a blower
