Summitt rebuild Kit?

Anyone have any good things to say about the summitt all forged rebuild kit they have for 560 bucks or so? Is it a good kit to get or should I just save my money and go with somethin else?

it's decent and strong, or so i've heard.

a nitrous expert once told me that it can handle 175 shot ot nitrous, so it should be pretty stong. but you need to buy the forged connecting rods and the forged crankshaft to go all strong...

So thats how they get you. They make you buy a new crank and rods pretty smart.

I don't see how they're 'making' you buy anything beyond what the pkg has. If you planned on using it for nitrous, then if you'd gone with a different route (brand) of stuff, you'd have to buy it all anyway, yes?

If it's good quality, then I'd think it's a pretty good deal. Takes some of the guess work out as to what all you have to buy and what works with what.

Well, no not exactly - what is it you plan on doing with the car? Any nitrous/FI going on?

Also, what's the part number for that kit? I tried to find it.. no luck.

If you meant part# SUM-CSUM383KIT Chevrolet: 383 stroker kit, it is for 2-piece rear seal, not an LT1 engine.

No its not that one. I think if you look in the catolog its like on the next page or the back of that page and it says something like LT1 year 93-97.

The forged kit is the one that I used for my rebuild. I also sent my blower back to ATI for new seals and bearings at the same time. I then slapped the motor all back together again. I reused the stock rods and crank (they checked out fine). So the rebuild was done on a budget and all total the whole thing cost me a little over $1800. That was done by me doing the rebuild and also included the cost of geting the heads freshed up and the block honed, and also getting the blower done by ATI. Back to the kit, for me I would say it is a good quality offering. I had NO issues with any of the parts that came with it, and would recommend the kit for buget rebuilds. I have about 2000 miles on the rebuild and the motor pulls strong and I have had no problems. Also my blower setup is a "low"boost setup running only 7-10 psi after the intercooler. Hope this helps, Good luck.
