Suggestions for Modifying LT1 intakes

I've sent off my bare LT1 intake manifold for some modifications. Basically I am having 1/8" of aluminum welded to the outside of the runner passages, then I'm going to re-contour to fit around the injectors. Next, I am going to grind out about an eighth inch of material on the inside of each runner to subtly increase runner volume, and change the angle of attack for the air charge.

I've looked and looked at the intake for three years now, and every time I check it out, it looks like a revised angle would help for high air volume applications. Anyone else ever try this?

Yes, look at this link here

That should keep you busy reading for a minute or two.

I think there's another thread or two on this site about this mod somewhere...

BTW, I have been meaning to call you for a while now, it's just this semester at school has been keeping me... let's just say...more than busy, lol.

A more efficient intake can help at most power levels, not just extreme ones. Didn't Jordan find 20+ hp on his NA stroker by welding/porting the intake? A forced induction motor can use more boost to overcome a sub-optimal intake, but an NA motor cannot. So it's worth the time to work the intake IMO.

Actually, about twenty minutes.

BTW, I am doing this on "spec" that someone might want an LT1 potrted, polished, thermal dispersant sprayed, and powdercoated manifold... >wink< >wink< I don't even have an LT1 motor!

I've just wanted to try it for about three years and decided to just "go for it". My welder guy is working it over this weekend. Does anyone have a spare LT1 head and some intake gaskets available? I want to do a mock-up so that I can properly port-match. I might add some aluminum on the inside of the runner to make everything perfect before I start the major porting later this summer.
