Suggestions on A Good Alternative To Quieting the Z

Hey,

Well, I ran headers/ no cat/ cutout for about 2 years straight open all the time with the stock catback. However now with the cam and ported heads, its just too damn loud at idle to leave it open all the time, the neighbors already hate me as it is. I am looking to just get rid of the stock muffler, not get a whole catback yet (too poor), so it is quieted down a little bit, wihtout losing the performance that I do with the stock muffler. What mufflers would you guys recommend? I am thinking about just getting one of the new flowmasters and throwing it on, and other ideas?

Thanks,
Brandon

A Flowmaster 3 chamber would be a good start or maybe a Hooker.

Get an electric cutout. (dmh makes good ones) If you want a muffler, just wait till you have enough for the full catback and get a hooker catback.

with your heads/cam setup you are probably losing some HP sticking with the stock 2 3/4 exhaust diameter. I don't know that you need a 3.5" or 4" yet though. Save up for something with a 3" I-pipe in it.

Hmm, I wasnt thinking the exhaust diameter would really help that much going from 2.75 to 3 inch. Do you think the full catback is worth an extra 200.00??

If you want to quiet it down add a stock cat or a high flow cat. Increasing the diameter of the tubing won't help a lot with sound...

You could always just get an 80 series Flowmaster muffler added...that should quiet it down a bit...

I'd say the flowmaster and a pair of high flow cats would be your best bet to quiet it down...

If you are interested in buying a catback,I am looking to get rid of my Borla system....I am actually looking for a stock system to put in it's place.I know Borla isn't the most quiet system but,it owuld help some.

flowmaster will sound like a big pile of **** with your setup, get a hooker aerochamber muffler. It's straight through, and runs about $90. Quiet as stock at idle for me but opens up when you give it gas.

Opinions are like @ssholes...

Have you even heard a FM with H/C? If you're that worried about sound just install a cutout...I LOVE how mine sounds with TPiS LT's, no cat, 3" exhaust etc.
