Stupid question, how to unplug the oil leve sensor?

I keep looking at it and I cant see any tabs or whatnot to press to umnplug it before taking the sensor itself out. So I give, "UNCLE!!! How do you pop this thing off?

Unhappy

OMG!! I'm having the same problem. You see, there's a clip type connector in there, just like the other connectors around your engine. But the clip is down inside the big hex thing.

Mine's leaking oil. I think once it gets unplugged, I just unscrew it with a big wrench. I'll put a new one in with some silicone and hopefully it won't leak.

Mine's not leak yet, however I do need to remove it to replace the oil pan gasket, which of coarse leaks alot...

is the clip connector on your sensor at the top of the plug where you cant see it? Mine is, so I have no way of being able to look inside there.

Look on the side of the hex. There is an opening that lets you put a screwdriver in and lift the release. Look on all six sides and one has it. You can even loosen it a little so you have some room to unplug it. It comes out easily by prying with a screwdriver.

Well, I think part of my problem is that the connector and sensor in the center of the big hex nut can turn on its own. I think it can unscrew out of the big hex nut. I think that's my oil leak ... it's coming out the center of the hex nut. I tried tightening it but it still leaks.

So I've been thinking of a way to pop the clip. I tried a small screwdriver but it didn't work. Maybe a U shaped piece of wire. could slip it in, go under the clip, and pull out to lift the clip and yank the plug.

Anyone done this before?

EDIT: Thanks, nateh. I'll look for that!

Go to your local auto parts store and pick up a set of pick tools. They usually come in a set with various bends in them, I personally use the 45 degree angle pick the most. Just get the car jacked up and supported safely with jackstands and get a real good look at the connector. Use the pick tool to pry up on the tab while GENTLY pulling the wire or connector. I hope this helps, plus you have a good excuse to get some new tools!!!! later ~~~~~~~~rob

I took mine off when I did my header install. I don't remember exactly how but I know it did not require a special tool. Just a screwdriver prying in the right place.
