Stupid Question, but are stock cranks

Are the stock crankshafts gold in color where the flywheel bolts up to them?
Heres a couple crappy pics from my camera phone.

They aren't made like that, but due to oil "staining" of the part mixed with heat etc on higher mileage engines, the end of the crank will turn a goldish color. Should polish right back to silver
