Stupid ? but need help with water pump

Installing a electric water pump and I have the stock pump off and the shaft on the car is part of the cam correct? So it stays there and will not get in the way right? This is the part that was covered by the pipe thing that connected the two shafts together. Anything will be helpful I am going to finish in the morning.

Take it out, it bolts to the engine block. Then freeze plug the timing cover, or JB weld a quarter in there.

I left the shaft in there. I guess you could take it out, but leaving it there won't hurt anything. It will just spin freely when the electric pump is installed.

Where can you get the correct diameter freeze plugs for the timing cover hole? Anybody know it's size off the top of thier head?
I'd prefer not to do this the ghetto way.

I ground the back of the timing cover down flat where the hole is raised and using 2 washers and a nut/bolt I sealed the hole. I used RTV on the washer that was on the back of the timing cover to prevent a leak.

Innovative!

I think I'd rather take the plug-route, though.

Pulling the timing cover off is a bitch. Especially with out ripping the oil pan gasket. I wouldn't pull the cover off until you are doing a cam. Then when you hae the cover off just take it to your local parts house and have them find a freeze plug that will fit.

Oh Crap! I didn't even think about the oil pan gasket!
How do I know if I ripped it? There's a bunch of gasket material on the bottom of the timing cover... it's supposed to be there, right?

what all do you have to remove in order to install an electric WP? from looking at the locale of the stock WP, removing it and replacing it with an elec. WP can;t be that bad. I just heard the wiring is a little confusing...

nah if there is gasket material in the groove on the bottom you ripped the oil pan gasket. Did you lower the oil pan at all? I figured your motor was stock and was all together as your sig mentions something about stock. It looks like you have to replace the oil pan gasket.

Doh!
Is that as difficult as I think it is?
Do you have any links to general how-to's?

Re: Stupid ? but need help with water pump

its suppose to be a bitch. I've heard you have to pull the motor mount bolts and lift the motor up and you might also have to loosen the kmember bolts and lower it down to get the pan out so you can replace the gasket. I've also heard of people cutting the gasket on the side and fishing the gasket around and siliconing up the cut.
