Re: stupid 383 build questions

Install a good set of 4.030" forged pistions, have some arp rod bolts installed on your factory rods, reuse the factory crank; that will be a fairly strong 355. Then have the heads proted by http://elliottsportworks.com/, the cc503 is a good DD cam. If you go 383 then I would not use one of those cheap cast cranks; the factory crank is stronger. For a DD build the budget 355 with le1 heads and cc503 cam will be just fine.

Re: stupid 383 build questions

No use in going 383 for what you want. Get some .030 over pistons, have the stock crank and rods checked, reassembled with ARP hardware and let it eat. The stock crank is very good and the rods with good hardware are good to 500hp. If have the money, since you need pistons anyways, get some decent forged I beam rods from Scat with good bolts.

Keep the XE503 and matching springs [so long as they aren't spent], if you want more power Lloyd Elliott @ Elliott Portworks provides a great bang for the buck by porting stock heads. A XE503 with some LE1 or LE2 heads with a solid 355 bottom end would make for a reliable and quick car with good street manners without breaking the bank.
