stumble and dies 3000-3500 erratic

my 97 t/a sometimes stubles and dies around 3000-3500 rpm. it didn't start until one day I ran out of gas. No egr or air. K&N filter descreened MAf. Replaced the Fuel filter and Changed the coolant. I have new spark plug wires on the way. I have no idea what is wrong. any ideas would be appreciated before I start throwing parts at it.
edit: doesn't do it all the itme. yesterday after the filter change it ran like a champ today it stumbles and died. no warning signs before it sumbles

See it every week. Someone comes in with a full tank of fuel and pump is shot. They let it get too low and cooked the fuel pump. Then right a way dumps a full tank of cold fuel on it.

Get a fuel pressure gage with a hose and tape it to the windshield. See what the pressure does when you start having a problem.

took it to a garage and they said the fuel pressure is fine. his idea was to run some drygas in incase there might be water?

I've gone through several tanks of gas since this started happeneing though.

What's the fuel pressure when the problem occurs?

he says the problem is no spark and he is getting a crank position sensor code.

Fuel pressure is fine.

Now I'm really confused.

Is the problem all the time or intermittent?

If it's intermittent, AND you have a sensor issue, my money's on burned or pinched wires.

If it's a consistent problem, as in all the time, he/you should have found it by now. A dead cylinder due to spark is easy.

intermittent. The day I drove it up to his garage no issues. he checked the codes fixed a loose maf hose said it ran fine for him. I picked it up a couple hours later and it stalled and died 200 feet out of his garage. 2 days later he let it idle for an hour and he said it died on him. He then brought it into the garage and said there was no spark.
