Stud girdles on LT1 heads?

I've seen a broken lock thread, lots of "will work with LT1/sbc" for sale threads, an "LT1 studs are not the same spacing as sbc" post, but no real evidence of anyone using a girdle with success.

I'm looking for a girdle that will work with LT1 heads.

Ya gotta make them from a blank. I'm doing one in the shop now, it would be just as easy to make two.

I guess no one keeps them in stock?

Not when you have to make them.

Are the AFR LT1 offerings different than the stock LT1 heads? I have a set of Jomar centerbolt girdles that fit fine on my old set of AFR 190's.

There really is no set point, IMO. However, a fairly aggressive setup coupled with decent revs would probably be benefit from a good investment in stud girdles.

I'm at a point where I need my rockers to be rebuilt ($11each), and looking at another couple hundred bucks at a stud girdle. I might consider sucking up the cost of a set of shaft rockers at this point .

Edit: Where'd ya go, GetaZ?

Sorry...I deleted the post to do a search so no one wasted time posting the info. I thought I could get it before anyone saw it....guess not.

Re: Stud girdles on LT1 heads?

These will work

I also had to raise my stud girdle by about .050" because my rr's where hitting the stud girdle.

The valve covers that came with the heads were not properly ground internally to clearance the movement of the rr's...but I run Harland Sharp 1.5 rr's which are a little bigger dimension wise.

I inherited these problems...and learned quite a bit in the process.

Makes me worry man.... the LT1's are a different valve spacing so you can easlity be putting stress on the studs if it's the wrong spacing, even by a little bit.

I believe the AFR heads do move the stud location on some of the bigger heads...but valve spring relocation, never heard of it.

Could be though.

Re: Stud girdles on LT1 heads?

Bret: When you say "valve spacing," do you mean stud spacing, or are the studs always aligned with the valves? IOW, stud spacing = valve spacing.

Jason Short had to have a custom set of girdles made for his AFR 210s, along with an offset rocker. Not many people doing this stuff - helps to have as much info on the table as possible.
