Stuck 200 miles from home, alternator not generating power

The alternator on my camaro flat lined after I floored it getting on to the freeway. The alternator works because its got over 500 miles on it and has been giving me 13.9v to 13.1v. I checked the excite circuit and it give me about 11.5v when battery is 11.8v. is it my instrument cluster since for some ****ed reason the alternator is controlled through it?

I would recheck all your connections after a hard pull you may have knocked somthing loose . I have never heard of your dash having anything to do with your alternator charge , Where did you buy it? just because it only has 500 miles on it doesnt mean it wont go bad

You say it has been giving you 13.x v, but what about now? Take a reading at the battery with engine running and not running.

I did do some work earlier that required me to pull a grounding strap (it was put back on) that i need to double check.

As for the cluster, the excite signal comes from the cluster. i remember seeing how it works from shoebox.

I would say that you found your problem alternator crapped out

Re: Stuck 200 miles from home, alternator not generating power

Got it checked at Advanced and it failed the voltage test. I'm a little shocked (no pun intended ) that the alternator crapped out after 3 weeks. got a new one and on my way home, hopefully this fixes my odd O2 readings i've been fighting.

Thanks guys!

Reman alts are a crapshoot. Some last, some don't. The bad ones usually go quickly, though (like yours).
