sts turbo

is anyone running the sts turbo? ive been reading alot into this system, and i gotta say its sounding pretty good. i was not very impressed at first when i saw it, but after i look through the sight and read all the facts and read through all the FAQs i was very impressed. im just looking for any opinions and or experiences with the system. one question i have is, will the stock motor handle the kind of boost that this system puts out? it says that the setup that they send you is set for 5 lbs of boost but the turbo is capeable of 15lbs. if you havent seen the sight check it out, www.ststurbo.com. the sight will answer almost any question that you could have about it.

Re: sts turbo

Alot of info is available on this sight about the STS as well. Several threads have been made about it and search through the forced induction section.

Overall, it seems its mostly agreed upon that any boost on an stock LT1 is going to shorten its life span. But low boost, good tuning, along with all the other needs will greatly improve its chances of hangin around longer. Hope that answers the question.

Yeah. I think it is generally accepted that boost will definately shorten the life of a stock motor. Forged internals and low boost should last a long time. Also from what I've heard that is a great kit.

Re: sts turbo

I did see the episode of Two Guys Garage on Speed Channel where they put one on a stock LS1 and i tmade 100 more hp at the wheels. I think that 5psi is ok on the stock motor, I wouldn't go any higher than that though without making that thing a little stronger. Browse through the forced induction section...lots of info.

Re: sts turbo

It seems really easy for someone to just come up and cut it off of your car. I wouldnt feel safe having one. Other than that i have heard nothing but good things. Also check in the FI section, There are atleast 30 posts on this.

Yep, the intake and turbo are both in the rear of the car. The exhaust tip on the passenger side rear and the air filter up by the the drivers side rear tire.
This kit was met with ALOT of initial criticism when it first came out, however it has been getting more and more better testimonials and reviews from significant bodies.

Re: sts turbo

If you do go with it, look into biulding the kit yourself. other than the oil lines it should be somewhat simple and a lot less $!
