Re: strange problem

Although this is worst case scenario: you could have worn out bearings.

Also your pickup tube on the oil pump may have fallen off.

Either way fix it fast or you will be buying a new engine.

Re: strange problem

ya, better stop beating on it. Put a manual oil pressure gauge on it, that will tell you really quick on the oil. Then go from there. But sounds like you'll be taking **** apart.

Re: strange problem

Get your code scanned to know what you're dealing with. Oil pressure will always drop once it's warmed up, especially now that it's winter. I believe 10 -12 psi is within spec at idle per GM. What is read at 3,000 rpm when it's warm?

Re: strange problem

You're problem is unrelated to your oil pressure which is no problem. If the problem with performance were the same problem with oil pressure, the engine would have torn itself apart by now.

Next, it would be nice to know what year you have and what accessories as well as where you are located.

You say after it warms up but is it when it goes into closed loop? What type of maintenance has been done? ie filters, cleaned anything like IAC, EGR, TB, injectors, done any kind of tune up work, like wires, plugs or O2s?

Noticed any gradual decrease in fuel mileage? Do you have fuel present in the oil?

To many questions, not enough answers

Re: strange problem

Haha, thats not bad. New motor I have gone through almost 4 tanks and barely have 400 miles on it

Do you hear anything odd? When I spun my 2 rod bearings I still had @ 10psi at idle (only reason the car made it home) and would build to 30ish up top.

I would say change the oil again and look for metal. Def don't drive it much until you figure out what is up. Catch a bearing early and you can get by with just replacing bearings. Catch it late and you may be building a whole new motor.

Re: strange problem

Maybe I missed something, but have you tuned the computer for your mods? what are your cam specs? You definitely want to tune for your cam swap...
