strange noise from spec stage 3 clutch...

first of all i want to say do not get the stage 3 carbon clutch unless you have to, its a pain to drive with.

after sitting in traffic for an hour or so the clutch started making a rubbing noise when i engaged it? well i went to go fix it today and it was gone?

anyone have an idea what it is?

The clutch took me about 1000 miles or more to get broken in and loose the chattering.

There is a trick I do to engage in first smoothly that is very helpful in the beginning. I rev it up to about 1.5-2k RPM then starts to engage. As it engage the rpm will drop, then rev it back up to 1.5-2k RPM again. Then release the clutch completely.

cheers

I agree, I did that for a little while, after I ran mine at the track though, I haven't had any problem since and drivability has been wonderful.
I can't explain the grinding noise, seems like you would have to be there and hear it yourself to be able to really determine what it is. I can understand though wanting to know what it is due to not wanting to cause any harm.
Hopefully it will be one of those things that will go as quickly as it came.

Is the chattering only when you are in neutral? A lot of high performance clutches do that when they are not under load. I'm not sure what does it, but it is pretty common. Even on full race cars.

I would get a rubbing noise in mine when backing up a hill or sliping the clutch alot.. it would go away after a few miles .. the best thing I ever done for drivabilty was 4.10's you could just almost dumpt the clutch and the car would start to move and wouldnt chatter..

You just need to get used to the clutch.. MY GF drives a 2001? V6 stang (meaning I drive her around in it) and I've grown to prefer the short harsh engagement of the stage III carbon (I have the older version too) over the long engagement of the mustang (it feels like I'm slipping it too much).. just give it time and you'll get good at it. I consider mine an anti theft device since no one but me or my GF can drive the thing

As for the rubbing.. well on engagement from a stop I'll get a loud squeek kinda noise.. it may be the torque arm rubbing on one of the bullet mufflers though.. I need to take a look at it.

My car does that rubbing non-sense only when its cold, once its warmed up it goes away. I've been told its the throwout bearing, but i'm not gonna worry about it.
