stock timing chain ok?

i just recently put together a 383 bottom end with le2 top end package etc..
just wondering what timing chain to get? i dont know if stock timing set is suitable or not due to the engine probably having around 425 RWHP..if not please give me a recommendation...must be 93-94 style with the splined opti drive..thanks

I believe the stock style timing chain will work fine for your application.

I personally would up grade to the 95+ style timing cover,95+ opti, 95+ cam pin, EWP, and a true double roller. Or bear minium, minus the EWP, and the true double roll up grade to the LT4 HD with the 95+ stuff. If you spending the money on a 383, it would be cheap insurance.

Since you are using the spline drive opti, you have little choice but to use a stock type set. Other options exist if you change to a vented opti.

Has anyone seen failure of the stock timing chain with a similiar setup to this? I just hate to have to buy 95+ opti and cover in addition to what I already got..thanks

I had a timing set failure on my 95. Only 3-4000 miles on a new 383. It cost me 8 valves and 1 month of down time. Now I'm runnning a cloyes double roller just incase.

Which is essentially a stock GM set. See the GM stampings on the cam gear?

Use a stock timing chain and gears on my 396 and no problems. Parts can fail though, no matter how much they cost or dont cost. Its the game we play.

Thats the timing set I used that took all the teeth off the crank gear. Must have been defective.

yea, ive seen some of the highest quality parts fail..i only asked this question because i seen there wasnt much selection for 92-93 timing set. i see a majority of you guys are running oem style timing sets, so i guess thats what i will run. how many miles do you guys that are running this set have on your engine?
